Nordicon strives for a sustainable tomorrow

During 2024, Nordicon have focused on identifying concrete measures to directly reduce our environmental impact and thereby contribute to a more sustainable consolidation. Since most of our emissions come from sea transport, we have focused on finding solutions to reduce these emissions. An important part of this work is renewable fuel – the key to reducing emissions directly linked to our operations.

Biofuel insetting

Fuel switch to renewable fuel, which means financially contributing to purchasing biofuel directly for the ships, instead of compensating for emissions through external projects, emerged as a promising strategy to create sustainable changes directly linked to our core business. To make this change possible, we have found a biofuel solution via a third party, which we can easily integrate into Nordicon’s transport range. This gives us, and our customers, a sustainable method to jointly reduce CO2 emissions for a greener future.

Nordicon GreenwayZ: Now available on My Nordicon!

We are pleased to announce that Nordicon now has a completely new biofuel product, Nordicon GreenwayZ Insetting Solution, that’s integrated into our customer portal, My Nordicon.

With a few keystrokes, it’s now possible to reduce CO2 emissions for sea transport. Fill in to/from port, weight, and volume, just as usual, and then select the option “Want to reduce your carbon footprint?”. You then can choose how much of the transport you want to reduce emissions for, in the form of levels 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The cost of the deposit is based on which level you choose. Note that the ETS cost is reduced by the same percentage.

Certificate

When a booking with fuel switch has been made, a confirmation will be sent with details of the shipment, the emissions, the selected percentage, and the cost. The cost of biofuel is then included on the invoice for the entire transport.

At the end of the year, a certificate is issued from a third party showing all biofuel bookings made, and the amount of CO2 reduced during the year.

Nordicon’s solution provides a significant CO2 reduction of up to 100%, is sustainably certified, integrates seamlessly into existing fuel supply without operational disruption, and is easy to use via our portal, My Nordicon. In addition, the service is globally available, which allows you to save CO2 regardless of the origin or destination of the load.

A certificate is sent annually with all the details about the CO2 reduction, which complies with international standards such as ISO 14040:2006 and the EU renewable directive.
