Renewable Liquid Biomethane

There are many different types of biofuels on the market with varying climate impacts, depending on how they are produced and used. The different biofuels offer emission reductions between 20 – 100%.

  • The emission reductions are measured as the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) over the fuel’s life cycle, from production to use.
  • Among biofuels, renewable liquid biomethane, produced from waste and residual materials such as animal manure, has one of the highest emission reductions of 100%.

This gives biomethane a significantly lower climate impact compared to other biofuels and is therefore the optimal and most sustainable alternative on the market, and why Nordicon has chosen to proceed with this product.

How Our Biofuel Insetting Works

1. Emission Calculation

  • Use our intuitive emission calculator in My Nordicon to assess your current CO2 emissions. This tool is available both when booking and during transit.
  • Choose the level of reduction you wish to achieve based on your sustainability targets.
  • Place your insetting order directly during the booking process or at any point during transport via our customer portal, My Nordicon.
2. Fuel Switch
  • Trough a verified partner, we procure sustainable biofuel derived from responsibly sourced waste and residue materials, such as livestock manure. Methane gas is extracted from these materials and converted into maritime biofuel. Under ISCC mass balance concept.
  • This biofuel seamlessly integrates into ocean carriers’ existing fuel supply chains, replacing conventional fossil fuels. The book & claim system allows Nordicon clients to opt for renewable fuel, regardless of your cargo’s specific route or trade lane.
3. Certification and Verification

All CO2 reductions are verified by an independent third party to guarantee accuracy and prevent double counting.

  • Upon completion, you receive a detailed certificate from Nordicon, which includes:
    • Baseline CO2 emissions using conventional marine fuel.
    • The CO2 reduction achieved by using Nordicon’ s sustainable biofuel.
  • At the end of the year, you will receive an independently verified certificate on the realized CO2 reduction under
    • ISO 14040:2006
    • Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) Framework for Logistics Emissions Accounting and Reporting (v.3.0)
    • EU Renewable Energy Directive II
    • International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) EU 205 Greenhouse gas emissions
    • Aligns with ISO 140823:2006 for the calculation of emissions from transport and distribution.
    • This verification report includes assurance on double counting, additionality and book and claim principles.

Join Nordicon in accelerating the decarbonization of the shipping industry!

By choosing Nordicon GreenwayZ customers can book their ocean shipments using fully renewable liquefied biomethane through a book-and-claim approach, which is based on the energy required to transport containers across the ocean.

This fuel, certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), contains no palm oil feedstocks and reduces WtW (well to wake) CO2 emissions per container by 100% compared to conventional fossil fuels.

Customers will receive proof of the sustainable fuel purchase, including an independently verified certificate confirming the CO2 reduction achieved through the fuel switch.

“Nordicon is committed to supporting our customers in achieving their sustainability targets. Our unique online book & claim tool is designed to provide our customers with opportunities to increase the share of LBM in the shipping industry, contributing to a greener future,”
– Linus Ahlm, CEO Nordicon AB
